Anxiety Free Real Estate
If anxiety about buying or selling has kept you from making your real estate dreams a reality, we’re here to help. Many people associate real estate transactions with stress, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Our years of work in the industry, along with our own moves in the past, have given us some insight into how to keep your sanity throughout the process.
Try putting some of these tips into practice the next time you’re in the midst of a big move. We are willing to bet that you’ll find they bring you tons of extra peace of mind!
Find an Agent You Trust: This is the first and most important way to keep a level head during any real estate transaction. Your agent is your advocate, educator, and friend. We work with you to take any stressors away and fight for you when the occasional issues arise. We are not only familiar with the ins and outs of real estate, but we’re well acquainted with the homes in our area. We can answer questions and give suggestions before you even know you need help!
Have Your Home Inspected Before it Goes Under Contract: If you’re selling, it’s a great idea to hire a home inspector beforehand to come and check things out. You can get a jump start on any projects and save time when the pre-sale inspection happens.
Pack Up Half Your Belongings Before You List: Not only will this make your move even easier, it’ll help your home sell faster. Studies have shown the importance of staging a space before selling. Packing away half of your items will help your home to show better and will cut your packing time in half during the moving week!
Spend a Weekend Away: Have you ever heard the adage, “A change of place is better than a rest.”? It’s a great piece of advice for those who might get stressed dealing with a move. A new place for the weekend offers a change of scenery that can clear your head and make you feel at peace. Plus, it’s a great idea to get away during the first weekend of house showings when multiple tours will likely be happening back-to-back.
Don’t Sweat the Counter Offer: Buyers and sellers can tend to fall apart when they hear that there’s a counter offer. This is not the end of the sale! This is all just a part of the process. Your agent will help to coach you through this and will go to bat for you to handle all counter offers.
Save Cash for Incidentals: Repairs, moving costs, fast food, and travel expenses can add up. Many buyers and sellers can feel stress because these incidentals feel expensive. Prepare your budget to reflect the unexpected. Have more money than you feel you’ll need to prepare for these. If you find that you don’t need to spend the cash, you can reward yourself with something beautiful to place in your new home!
Eliminate the Unnecessary: Your life is going to be busy for a couple of weeks. Repeat after us: This is only temporary! It’s a great idea to cut back in your personal life during the few weeks you’re in the process of a move. Order delivery for dinner, don’t go to your monthly book club, or recuse yourself of your volunteer duties at the kids’ school. These are all easy ways to eliminate what doesn’t matter and save some stress.
Prepare Your Family for Changes: If you have kids, talk with them. Sit down with your partner and discuss what the upcoming changes will mean for each of you. Feeling prepared is one of the best ways to preempt stress.
Take Care of Yourself: Self care is important now more than ever. Eat a balanced diet, keep your sleep schedule in check, and take moments to care for yourself mentally and physically. It’s easy to neglect these areas of our lives in chaotic moments, but you won’t regret the investment.
We’d love to learn from you! What did you do to keep your calm during a move?
