Design Your Dream Deck
Your patio or deck is the hub of activity for the warmer months. Whether you’re hosting a BBQ or plan to spend hours enjoying a good book and your favorite drink, a great outdoor space is a necessity!
Our favorite tip for creating a great outdoor space, is to think of the space as if it’s another room of the house. Envisioning your outdoor area as a room within your home’s four walls will make decorating easier.
We like to think of the elements in a room when planning an outdoor space. These are some of our favorite finds for each of these elements:

Ceiling
If your deck or patio has a roof, this is a great place to consider adding in a ceiling fan or some great lighting. A ceiling fan will work to keep you cool in the summer and keep bugs at bay. An upgraded overhead light is also a great way to make your space feel comfortable. If you don’t have a ceiling, we love hanging outdoor string lights in a patio area for lighting and ambiance.
Walls
You wouldn’t go without art on the walls in your home, why forgo art in outdoor spaces? Of course the wall space is usually limited in outdoor rooms. This is a great place to plan on hanging a decorative sign or a wreath on your backdoor. A few well-placed decor pieces can make your space feel special.
Floors
Outdoor rugs can easily elevate a patio. Having a rug will define the space and add some visual warmth and texture to an outdoor room. If you’re worried a rug will just get dirty, don’t fear! Many modern outdoor rugs can be sprayed with a water hose or pressure washer. Cute doormats are another smart idea for keeping dirt and mud where it belongs during the spring and summer months.
Furniture for Sitting
It’s time to upgrade from those folding chairs you use on the porch. The options for outdoor patio furniture are endless these days. We are loving these plush options or creating intimate seating areas with a variety of chair and sofa options.
Furniture for Eating
Outdoor meals are a perk of the warmer weather that never gets old. Make sure you have a comfortable are for enjoying outdoor meals. If your patio gets lots of afternoon sun, it may be a great idea to consider a table with an umbrella.
Accessories
Accessories can sometimes be forgotten when planning outdoor spaces. The decorative elements of a porch can make it feel even more home-like. Consider adding some potted plants, a pretty tray with an outdoor candle, or some throw pillows on your seating. These extras go a long way to bring the indoors outdoors!
Entertainment
Great music is an element that you can’t skimp on when it comes to outdoor gatherings. We love this bluetooth speaker for adding that ambiance. Looking to up your porch get-togethers a bit more? Consider a projector and screen to make movie nights happen under the stars! Some low-tech yard games are another great way to keep the fun flowing well into the night.
