Whether your company, the military, or personal reasons are the catalyst for a move, the stress is the same. Fear of the unknown in a far-away location and countless logistics can drive the most relaxed buyers and sellers to stress. Local and long-distance concerns can be a lot to juggle.

Use these tips to simplify the process:

1.      Find an Agent- Every tip on this list is only as good as your team. Locally, our team here at Metro Brokers of Oklahoma will take great of you and ensure your needs are met with ease. If you’re moving away, we can help you sell with minimal stress and pair you with a wonderful agent in your new city. If you’re moving to the area, we are a trusted team with years of unmatched experience.

2.      Find a Relocation Specialist- Working with a Certified Relocation Professional (or CRP) will help you coordinate the details of a move. A CRP will juggle the gritty details, such as shipping automobiles, movers, finding vendors for your new home, and more. Kathleen Forrest is a CRP and has years of working closely with military families and others embarking on the monumental task of relocation. For, much of the time, at little or no cost to clients, she will ease the stress of a move.

3.      Start Your Research ASAP- What school district should you choose, what location is near your new office, do you want to live in the city or suburbs in your new area code? Do your best to start researching the area as soon as possible. Read local blogs about life in your new town, subscribe to e-mail updates from the local newspaper, and ask for information from residents. A great agent is your best source when learning about a new area. Each town has its quirks, amenities, and unique culture. Immerse yourself in the area by doing research from day one.

4.      Arm Yourself with Knowledge- Knowledge is power, especially in real estate. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Buyers and sellers can feel intimidated and fail to ask the right questions from fear. Don’t worry; an agent is used to answering silly and serious questions all day long. Even if you’ve bought or sold before, the process can be intimidating. There’s no reason to go through it blind. Be sure to find an agent who willingly answers your questions as they arise, you’ll be glad you did.

5.      Know if Something is Too Good to be True- Scams are one of the scariest risks for buyers who are relocating. It’s easy to fall for something that looks like it’s perfect, but proves to be a completely falsified listing. A healthy dose of skepticism is great, but an experienced agent’s help is an even better safeguard against scams.

6.      Travel for What You Can- The biggest hurdle in a long-distance relocation is travel. Prioritize traveling for the home inspection if possible. This is a great time to see your new place, warts and all. Conversely, your closing can happen without you present. Although it may seem scary to close on a new home from a remote location, technology makes it simple. Understand when it’s truly necessary to travel, this will save you loads of time and headaches.

7.      Don’t Stress- Easier said than done! Try and relax about the process. Put your move into the hands of capable professionals. If you’re leaving Oklahoma, we can match you with that team in your new location and do what needs to be done to sell your home. If you’re moving here, we can coordinate to find the perfect new address. We understand how daunting it can feel, but we make the process lower in stress for our clients no matter the situation.

These tips are a great starting point. Diving in to a new adventure can be exciting and terrifying. Use these tips from our experts to make the process seamless. We’d love to help you start the journey of relocation. Give us a call, we’re passionate about what we do and would love the honor of helping you.
